I greet you in the love and in the light of the One Infinite Creator
I'm making a new post because the other post already has so much misinformation…
I'm making a new post because the other post already has so much misinformation, and I don't want the truth to get buried behind speculation and lies and misinformation.
I have studied the Law of One for over 7 years and have extensively read most of the companion materials for the books, which is where almost all of the information I will post here comes from (Book 5, Tilting at Windmills, Jim/Carla's personal blog, etc). I have also volunteered directly for L/L Research in the past so I have personally spoken to the current surviving members. This is not an easy story to tell nor is it easy to hear, so please bear that in mind before you begin.
Firstly let me say that there has never been any attempt to "hide" this info. The original books were mostly published while Don was still alive. In fact, I will eagerly warn people who flippantly discuss potentially channeling Ra or doing some other sort of channeling, because this is an objectively dangerous path of service.
There are many people on this forum even who call themselves "channels" who have no idea what types of energy they are messing with, and that is a shame. The main problem is that people get infatuated with the Ra material for any number of reasons, and very very very few actually consume the companion materials that go into detail about the contact, let alone the entirety of the contact itself.
There is enough information out there that nobody has to act in ignorance, but most do. I suggest if you are interested in channeling in the very least to read Carla's A Channeling Handbook. There are other resources on the L/L Research website to help potential channelers, but again, this service should not be undertaken lightly, and certainly not alone, and hopefully after reading this post you will understand why this warning is not fearmongering but the truth.
First, let's establish the facts, as many of the basics were distorted in the previous thread. Don Elkins was the questioner for the Ra material, Carla was the "instrument" through which Ra was channeled. Don and Carla were longtime partners who were very much in love with each other. Carla was willing to do anything for Don, though she wasn't very interested in participating in his channeling experiments at first.
Don did not have "a history of mental illness", Don was a very smart man, with high military accolades and many students who respected him when he was a professor at university. In fact many people who knew Don would say he was the smartest, wisest, and most put together man in the room.
The primary personality flaw that Don had was that as a child, he was sexually abused by a family member. To deal with his trauma, he adapted a "Vulcan-like" way of looking at the world through a hard lens of wisdom and denying his own emotions. Everything was pure logic and no feeling. This served him well through most of his life.
However, he later asked Ra about his method of dealing with catalyst (42.2) and Ra says no, this is not the proper use of catalyst, one must experience all feelings and put them in their proper place to truly become balanced. So eventually Don, at a rather advanced age, had to look closely within himself at many things he had rejected or denied.
When Don was a young pilot the Thomas Mantell event triggered his interest in UFOs, which is where he began his research. He would spend his off time flying from purported UFO landing site to landing site, or visiting contactees, and gathering as much research and info as he could on the phenomenon.
When he met Carla, she became his researcher/secretary of sorts, as she had been trained as a librarian.
Eventually Don made contact with other researchers who gave him the key he needed to shift his research into channeling: that these entities will contact us directly if the proper protocol are followed. Don gathered a dozen of his students and they began meditating and attempting contact. Eventually it worked and they established their contact with the Confederation of Planets in Service to the One Infinite Creator, a group of many entities who had a lot to say, mostly about love and light.
They were taught that there was strict protocol to follow to keep the contact “tuned” to the proper positive entities and to not dilute it with negative information, specific information, or lies. Eventually his students grew up and moved on from their meditation group, and all that was left was Carla. Like I said, she wasn’t interested, but in her extreme desire to please Don, she said yes and began participating and testing her skills which eventually became the protocol that L/L Research currently uses to consciously channel entities to this day.
She had at least 40 years experience as a “researcher” in this field so this is why I say please read her books before attempting anything like this yourself. She was a much better channel than Don because she had a lifetime of spiritual faith to support her endeavors, and was able to “let go” of herself in the ways that are necessary for a pure, positive contact to come through.
Eventually Don and Carla met Jim, who was the final key to the Ra contact. Jim is often referred to as “the scribe” but truly he is more like “the battery” and was the primary source of vital energy used for the contact.
Don and Carla were dedicated partners, however, due to Don’s distortions in the area of sex (due to his abuse) and his very old-fashioned and negative feelings about women and marriage, they didn’t really have a traditional relationship in that sense. Don was celibate and Carla did not want that life. Before Jim she had another long-time sexual partner, but once Jim came to the group, he took up that place.
Jim had a surplus of physical energy which he would transfer to Carla through sexual magic that allowed facilitation of the contact. Contrary to popular superficial beliefs, the three of them had a very healthy and mature triad that functioned very well for them. Carla was desperately in love with Don, Don needed Carla, and Jim and Carla were friends who had sexual intercourse. Three weeks after Jim moved in with the group, contact with Ra was made.
Carla writes herself that she had never seen Don so happy as after she would wake up from trance channeling Ra, as he was a very stoic man who rarely showed emotion. This encouraged her to maintain the contact to the best of her ability.
Because of her Christian distortions and her strong love of Jesus, she was literally willing to die to help bring in the Ra contact, as it was the culmination of Don’s life’s work and his one happiness. This sacrifice helped maintain the purity of the contact but also opened a vulnerability for the fifth-density negative entity who greeted the group during the entirety of the contact.
Ra often told Carla to work on her distortions towards martyrdom — a misunderstood part of the material. The only reason Ra spoke of this as something to avoid was because Carla was literally willing to die for her service, which is the definition of martyrdom. She was also physically weak and would lose several pounds each time she entered trance, which frightened Don and Jim. They often canceled sessions when she was not well enough, which upset her greatly.
As the contact went on, the need for harmony within the group increased. Though they exhibited much harmony, the work of negative entities is to exploit even the smallest distortions. One major challenge arose when their landlord decided to sell their home. Unable to resolve an escrow dispute, they were forced to move repeatedly, living out of boxes and never fully settling.
Another stressor was Don’s exhausting commute as a pilot, which grew worse after moving. Though Jim and Carla were more easygoing, Don bore the financial and psychological weight of these challenges. His internal conflicts regarding family, sacrifice, and responsibility — shaped by his own upbringing — became pressure points for negative influence.
During this time of upheaval, Don and Carla experienced what Ra termed a “deleterious energy exchange” (106.13). Carla assumed strength while Don became emotionally vulnerable, reversing their typical roles due to their deep bond and magical work. This left Don exposed to fear, paranoia, and loss of faith, making him the primary target of the negative entity. Undermining Don psychologically became the most effective way to end the Ra contact.
So begins Don’s descent into paranoia. He was still aware of himself enough to watch it happening, but he displayed classic paranoid delusions. He believed the FBI was investigating him for selling drugs. He thought their house was bugged. He lost a great deal of weight. This was also when he began to doubt Carla and Jim, fearing that Carla might leave him for Jim.
This was exacerbated by the fact that Don was inconsolable much of the time and refused to leave the house, so activities the three of them once shared became limited to Jim and Carla. Carla, however, never stopped loving Don first — but such is the nature of paranoid delusions.
At one point Don was institutionalized for five weeks, but the experience was deeply damaging. The primary doctor was on vacation for most of that time, leaving Don in a kind of mental health limbo. After his release he briefly improved: his delusions lessened and he gained some weight. But the improvement was short-lived, and his condition soon deteriorated again.
In the final weeks of his life, Don knew he was a danger to himself. He disposed of most of his firearms, yet continued to speak seriously about suicide. He weighed only 140 pounds at six foot six. Believing their friend was on the brink of death one way or another, Jim and Carla made a painful decision: they sought a mental inquest warrant — a court order allowing someone deemed a danger to themselves to be committed against their will. They sincerely believed it was the only remaining hope.
Armed police officers arrived to take Don into custody. Don was convinced that he would die in a mental institution and desperately refused to go. He retrieved a remaining hidden firearm, held it to his head, and barricaded himself inside his home, pleading to be left alone. The presence of the weapon escalated the situation dramatically, ultimately drawing thirty-nine police officers into a prolonged standoff.
Carla attempted to calm Don, but officers forcibly removed her from the house. From a neighbor’s home she tried to speak with Don by phone, but police prevented her from doing so because she refused to lie to him. Rather than allowing de-escalation, the situation continued to escalate — as is tragically common in such encounters.
During the more than five-hour standoff on a cold November night in Kentucky, Don gathered warm clothing from the house and brought it outside for the officers waiting in the cold. Eventually, police fired seventeen tear gas canisters into the home. Don understood that this marked the end.
Exercising what he perceived as his final act of free will, Don exited through the back door and shot himself through the temple.
Don’s death is a grimly familiar story in modern society: an untrained police force tasked with managing a mental health crisis rather than trained professionals. Don did not want to die and would have done almost anything to avoid that outcome — except endure institutionalization, which he had already experienced as deeply traumatic. Instead of receiving care, a suicidal man was confronted by overwhelming force and driven into a corner that left him feeling he had no other choice.
People can and do recover from the kind of psychological state Don was experiencing when appropriate support and care are available. In 1984, such care was neither readily accessible nor adequately provided. Instead, a mentally ill man was surrounded by armed officers until the situation became fatal.
Everyone who studies the Ra material should understand the circumstances of Don’s death. It is not only a cautionary tale for those drawn to high magic — illustrating how small ego distortions can become catastrophic under sustained negative pressure — but also a story of a decorated military officer, scholar, pilot, and researcher failed by the systems meant to protect him.
Don Elkins was not weak, cowardly, or unaware. By all accounts he was brilliant, charming, and accomplished. His death was the result of a perfect storm: intense magical work, unresolved inner distortions, inadequate mental health care, and the focused influence of a persistent negative entity intent on ending the Ra contact. It was long assumed Carla would be the one to perish due to her frail health. Instead, it was Don — strong, rational, and outwardly stable — who died.
Going forward, it is vital that salacious rumors and careless speculation about Don’s death be rejected. His sacrifice was profound, and it brought forth material that has deeply impacted countless lives. Discussions of the Ra material deserve sobriety, humility, and respect.
Before speaking on these matters, we should each go within and examine our own understanding. This material is not a toy, nor is it fodder for ego. Its power demands responsibility.
Thanks for reading.
Monica:
Right. [Laughter.] Oh, that’s great. Okay, our first question today is from Lycen.
“Warm greeting to you, Monica and Carla. Reading from the January 28th 1981 transcripts
Carla mentions, ‘We helped with the now-historic mind link of 1977, in regards to Andrija Puharich.’
My question is what was the mind link? I did some searching around the net but found no immediate answer.
But it sounds like it was something considerable at the time it took place. Thank you for the service.
Love and light, Lycen.”
Carla:
Okay, well this is something that happened to me before Jim came along, so I’ll answer this one.
It was 1977. I had known Andrija for 3 years, and Andrija and Don had gotten pretty close.
They talked quite a bit.
Andrija was a researcher; he’d written several books that had caught the attention of the public. He’d written one on sacred mushrooms — that was the first one he wrote. He’d written one about a Dutch psychic and substantiated some of the things that this guy was able to do. He was pretty amazing.
And Andrija was a scientist; he was trying to figure out how it works, what was happening. He did the same thing with Uri Geller, came out with that I think in the mid-70’s, before the mind link anyway. He wrote a book called Uri and that was a bestseller.
So Don had initially read about Andrija in Uri and then called him up — just called him up — because in the book Uri, there was a whole appendix of channeling that had come to Andrija through various sources.
Supposedly there were various higher beings that came in through pressing down the buttons on a tape recorder even though there was nobody there. Andrija just loaded the tape recorder, then the buttons would go down and this message would come through. It was a fairly computerized sounding message.
These messages — the ones that had come through from people, the one that had come through from the tape recorder — were enough like the channeling that we were doing, that we were receiving from our source, that Don wanted Andrija to know about it.
Also, it was quite shocking actually. We had written a book in 1969, it was the very first thing that Don and I had done together when we first started working together. It was a book of fiction called The Crucifixion of Esmerelda Sweetwater.
In that book one of the characters was a fellow named Pablo, and Pablo was Andrija — to the point that there was a physical description of him that was exact. His description of the kind of person that he was pretty close, and even the house that he lived in was so exact that when we drove up to his mansion in 1974 I just — my mouth was open.
I thought, “Andrija! This house is in our book!” But when I saw it the only difference is there were peonies all along the circle driveway.
And he said, “Oh we had those taken out three years ago.” So between 1969 and 1974 they’d been taken out.
So that was the beginning of our relationship, and it was a close one because there aren’t very many peers that you have when you’re researching in this area. It’s considered a soft area scientifically.
You don’t get a lot of scientists to talk to. You get people that are coming from the standpoint of channeling and so forth, but their background is in the arts — liberal arts.
So Andrija got some information in 1976 and early 1977 that really disturbed him. It was that the people that were visiting us and offering these messages to humankind — these entities from elsewhere — had just about decided to give up and go home.
They were no longer in the belief that humankind was capable of coming together and creating fourth density — basically an atmosphere of mutual love and understanding.
And so Andrija asked, “Well, if I’ve got a bunch of people together, and we created that, would that make a difference? Would you stay?”
It was like the man looking for ten honest men so that the city would be saved. And the answer was in the affirmative — yes, if you can do this, then we will continue trying to help.
Carla:
So we agreed. And Don was considered the co-partner. He and Andrija together created what was called the
“Mind Link” for obvious reasons.
What we were supposed to do was link up — person to person to person to person — and create a unified effort to become that which we had not been able to be before: that which would enable us to come together in love and understanding.
So we all gathered at Andrija’s mansion. Some were living there, some were living in motels. There were about 30 of us. Some of those who were with it were psychics of a certain age. Others were 18 to 24, and had been originally collected — you might say — by Andrija as a gene pool in case the world came apart.
The messages sometimes suggested that if humankind couldn’t wake up and listen and do this thing — get together and link up and love each other — then it was no telling what was going to happen. Armageddon could be around the corner because humankind had the ability to create Armageddon with their bombs.
So we gathered and we meditated twice a day. We did exercises in the morning, and we took our meals together when we could. But the center of our gatherings were these two meditations.
Andrija and Don created a series of concentric circles. Those who considered themselves the best of the lot — the ones who were middle-aged or older and known for their psychic abilities — sat in the center of the circle. There were definitely some ego questions there.
Then in concentric circles around — I think there were four circles — sat those who were younger and who didn’t have the importance. But Don and I sat in the outer circle because we were anchoring the circle.
Don was at the north and I was at the south — basically the positive and negative poles of a battery. In magical language, the feminine is considered the negative side, the masculine the positive side. This doesn’t have to do with service-to-others polarity; it simply has to do with energy.
Positive and negative are necessary to put together to have the energy work. Sun and moon — think of it like that. I was the moon, Don was the sun. So we sat in the outer circle, and we sat for a half hour.
What was happening to all of us, each in our own way, was that we were having a common vision take place within us. All of us were being taken aboard some kind of place — many called it a craft, some just had a feeling of place — and we were being given instructions.
Some of the instructions were clear, some were not. But it was all about working together and loving each other. So we would meditate and set our intention to love and serve together, and just do the best we could to hold that intention for a half hour. And we did this for about a month.
We did most of it at Andrija’s estate in New York. He had a huge living room and that was where we sat for our meditations. Then we all gathered together and caravanned down to North Carolina to Josh Reynolds’ place in the country.
We did our meditations in his barn — a great big structure built during the Depression.
Jim:
WPA.
Carla:
Oh — excuse me — WPA. There was a whole village of cabins and a generator. It was living completely off the grid,
an experiment the government ran in basic living. How to go back to nature and do that.
By the time we were there it was in private hands — Josh Reynolds’ — and he gave it to us and meditated with us. It was a wonderful place. The North Carolina woods are beautiful. There was a brook you could fish in, and a large lake created for the generator.
Several UFOs were sighted. It was a very spooky time, really. But the center of it was always the meditations.
At the end of it, I think six different psychics got in touch with me or Andrija to let us know that they had picked up this effort and that it had worked — that it was positive.
So that was the Mind Link of 1977. I don’t think it made a blip on anybody’s radar, but it did on the awareness of those who were heavily involved in meditating and in psychic research.
So we were satisfied that it was an effort that was worth it.
And it was a very exciting time for us. We really enjoyed it and saw a lot of things that we never could explain. A lot of psychic activity. And that was very enjoyable also.
I had never had any doubts that these things happen, but it was good to see them happen. We made friends that were deep friends at that time, and I have kept some of those relationships even through till now.
Even though it was a long, long time ago — ’77 — what is that? It’s 37 years ago. So that was the Mind Link.
Something along the same lines I might mention in that regard happened — I’m not sure when the date was. Oh, yes I am, because it was 9/11.
Three weeks before the Twin Towers were taken down, a friend of mine got in touch with us to say that he communed with Mother Nature every night, which I knew that he did. It was his way.
And that She had said that She was going to stop speaking with him, and with anybody, because they were ready to give up on planet Earth.
So he asked us to do something, and Jim and I talked about it, and we decided we’d start meditating — we’d do the Gaia meditation, meditating for Mother Earth. And we do that to this day.
I think that it was because of the great horror of the destruction of the Twin Towers; things happened in the psychic world in time/space long before they happen in manifestation.
This, I think, was happening and causing those forces of nature that are in link with humankind to want to give up the ship and not try to link with us in spirit anymore.
So once again meditation was the answer. And as I said, it’s one of those things that L/L Research does as part of our service. People all over the globe now tune in with us and meditate nightly at 9 p.m.
It doesn’t really matter about the time as long as they do it, because it’s 9 o’clock at different times all over the world. Some meditate with us physically, and some meditate with us in spirit.
I think that in time/space, that different way of looking at time means that it’s all simultaneous. So there are ways in which you can comfort those great forces of Nature and those sources of help that are from elsewhere.
They all have to do with meditating and asking — asking for help — and learning more about being a good person. I think it’s as simple as that.
Monica:
Very fascinating, as [inaudible] would say. Fascinating story. I’m remembering a discussion about Andrija — something
about controversy, MK-Ultra, or something like that?
Carla:
Andrija was a scientist who worked with psychics, and he himself was a man of some psychic power.
He learned how to do what we now call remote viewing — originally called out-of-body experience.
Jim:
Astral projection.
Carla:
Yes — astral projection.
The government became interested in this ability — to scan places, see inside buildings, see inside the human body, move in time and space. The CIA believed it could be useful and asked Andrija to train people, which he did.
Remote viewing became controversial when used not in service to humankind, but in pursuit of national policy.
Another issue was that Andrija was also working with Israeli intelligence. It was felt he knew more than he should. The government became paranoid about him and put him on lists, eventually driving him out of the country.
Some say he was eventually killed. I don’t know the truth of that, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
He fled the country at one point under gunfire, driving away in a trailer that was struck but not disabled.
Later his house burned down. Don was there at the time and managed to get everyone out. Investigators told Don that a substance used by the CIA — and no one else — was responsible.
Within days of Andrija’s death, agents took all his papers — decades of meticulous research.
That was the controversy.
He was actually a genial, sweet man. A good person. He had flaws, yes — but he lived to serve and to work. Nothing stood in his way.
He was one of Don’s few real friends, and I mourned his loss.
Monica:
Do you think he knew his work was being used to control people?
Carla:
I suspect he eventually knew, and I think it bothered him deeply. But once the cat was out of the bag, others would
have spoken if he had not.
If you could speak to Robert Monroe today, you would hear some very interesting stories.
Here is an excerpt from my journal at the time: Each of these people was quite different than the next. Not all were natives to the region or the continent. Different customs and drastic differences in lifestyle. All were united in an idea, a vague feeling of finality in what was to be. Eager yet hesitant, and sometimes finding dimensional barriers an easier hurdle than those of emotion or ego. But conscious effort was made to put those things aside. The goal was, after all, unity.
Endurance was required. Physical as well as concentration. We had some masters come in to instruct and inspire. We pushed ourselves. Some made it through distractions and others did not. Rejection hysteria was present in the air at times. The final days of the Big Event were spent in silence. Notes were permitted, but even excessive laughter was curtailed. We really felt we were in training.
It was a rigorous program, starting with two hours of increasingly complex yoga postures and exercises. We gathered twice a day in the living room, in three concentric circles for our meditation travels. The more experienced psychics were in the center, with younger Space Kids (18 to 25 years old), myself included, in the outer rings for strength and battery life to our collective signal. Two powerful psychics, Don Elkins and Carla Rueckert, sat in opposite sides of the outside circle, anchoring it. We were having in-common visions, some involving being aboard a kind of spacecraft, others just noting internal expansion dimensionally. But we were unified in our intention of creating a powerful loving and cohesively linked vibration, and amplifying it to inter-fuse and bathe the planet, massively dissipating negative forces.
The quickly scribbled notes of my direct experiences from one session in the Link are as follows: Tauris voice, carried up to the ship. Brief look around. Enter room with round table. Sit down, similar seating pattern as here. All guides standing behind each. Mine, purple robe like tarot card. Blondish hair. Built up energy in circle buzzing it around. Talking to my guide saying all will happen as I thought. I will levitate and dematerialize, have it down in 5 years. I want to go back to where I’m from. He let me see it but Tauri called us back to the table. Crystal in middle. I went inside and experienced glowing translucent.
Went outside floating around—saw Nathan. We encountered, looked at each other embarrassed. Smiling, stood back then he took off in one direction, I in another. Then found myself spiraling up and around a shaft of light up, up, up. Noticed others, too. Carla. Greta. They saw me. Saw guide again. Slipped over around him feeling very free, laughing. He said we can go to your planet now. He took my hand. It was like I thought. All internal. We went in, saw strange terrain with crystals, transparent surfaces, water and weird trees. Didn’t stay long. Came back, me in front of him this time. Will get a name soon from him.
Back to the ship, looked around. Some others still there. Went into room all dark, except for crystal in the middle. Beautiful energy source. Wanted to stay, but knew I had to return here, waited until last second when I heard the bell. Then jumped back. Saw some beings, whitish robes. Will write books and instruct. Will do warrior work first.
Another time it was agreed that we would all mind travel up to a massive ship far above the Hawkes property, about the length of two football fields. Roughly airplane shaped, it had undulating walls. It felt like our combined energy gave structure to the walls in the moment. We floated around its rather empty interior eventually coming upon about five diminutive, humanoid looking beings. They conveyed to us mentally, would you like to see the engine room? We eagerly agreed, and were led into a smallish round room with wavering, shimmering walls. Four “human doll” beings were centered, two of each standard gender, standing with their backs to each other in a rough north, south, east, west formation. They gazed straight ahead in a relaxed way but a strong energy pulsed from them. That was it, they were the silent engine.
This entire event and program held some deep bliss for me. The last three days before the big Link meditation were in silence, which amplified our telepathy within the group. We had pocket-sized notebooks to record our thoughts and communicate the basics. For myself and several others, it was the favorite phase. We could just look at each other and often guess what the basic communication was about, and at times it became a fast paced, humorous game. Morale was very high. After Andrija narrated his personal experience leading the last, most powerful Link meditation, the group fell silent to review their experiences, some jotting down notes. During this lull I pulled Andrija aside, eager to share.
“Andrija, I can’t believe it, most of the flash-points you just recounted I also experienced, and in the same sequencing! Especially the part about you flying off with us all to the Council of Twenty-Four!” Andrija was impressed with my details and we looked deeply into each other’s eyes for a half minute. It became the most important shared moment ever between us. Not everyone remembered as much. We returned to a group that was both exuberant and peaced-out at the same time. These sequences are laid out below in a detailed letter sent us after the Link, which is attached to our first newsletter from Hawkes.
Carla Rueckert (Google-Carla Rueckert, Mind Link) has a great interview online that explains the Mind Link well, along with our immediate decamp to Devotion, North Carolina to the massive estate of Josh Reynolds, of Reynolds Aluminum fame. The property had many cabins and a large barn for our meditations which Josh joined us in. We hoped to start a community there, and it was a lovely break in the magnificent wooded acreage. There were ponds, and streams, and room to roam as we rejoiced in our accomplishment and basked in the force of our love vibration, attained at the Link.
Andrija got feedback from several intuitives around the world that our efforts at the Link were successful, and we had postponed, at least, some dangerous global events in the Middle East. He did not go into specifics at that time, but we assumed the details would be in the book Time No Longer, and could preview it later. It was a joyous, celebratory week, but we also wanted Josh Reynolds to see our sincerity. We kept the energy going with meditations each day to build on the expansive, cohesive vibration we had created in other levels of consciousness at the Mind Link.
We hiked and swam and danced. I would have enjoyed staying longer, but I was the maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding the following week and needed to head back. In the end, most all decamped, planning to return soon. We would solidify our game plan once back at Hawkes while we continued work on the TMT and Time No Longer books.
